West Kalimantan, Indonesia

Link-AR Borneo is a nonprofit membership association founded in 2012 in Kubu Raya Regency, West Kalimantan, under Notarial Deed No. 01/2012. Since its establishment, Link-AR Borneo has focused on research, advocacy, and capacity building with communities living in and around forests, Indigenous peoples, fishers and coastal communities, and workers in plantation and extractive industries, including palm oil, timber plantations, and mining. Through research, advocacy, and campaigns, Link-AR Borneo promotes the protection of forests, biodiversity, and community living spaces while addressing climate change, deforestation, energy transition, and the livelihoods of low-income communities.

The protection of workers and labour rights is central to Link-AR Borneo's advocacy. Through community support, participatory research, and the strengthening of local trade unions, we work towards fair labour conditions and the fulfilment of workers' basic rights in plantation and mining sectors. Research and advocacy also seek to protect Indigenous peoples, fishers, coastal communities, and vulnerable groups facing social, economic, and environmental pressures from resource exploitation and inequitable industrial practices. Link-AR Borneo works throughout West Kalimantan.

Vision

To promote improvements and reform in natural resource and environmental governance in order to achieve justice and community well-being.

Mission

To empower communities living in and around forests, plantations and mines, as well as workers on large-scale timber and palm oil plantations, fishers and coastal communities, so that their social and economic rights are respected, protected and fulfilled. This work includes planned, measurable research, mapping, advocacy and campaigns rooted in local knowledge and sustainable natural resource management, helping to address climate change and global warming.

Link-AR Borneo also advocates policy reforms towards sustainable natural resource governance and the protection of the social and economic rights of affected Indigenous peoples, fishers, coastal communities, timber and palm oil plantation workers, and mine workers in West Kalimantan. We pursue these objectives through policy advocacy and campaigns.
